Promoting Equality and Fair Housing: More than a decade ago, even before the Equality Act gained congressional approval, the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) understood the importance of safeguarding individuals’ rights under the Fair Housing Act. In 2009, NAR took significant steps to extend these protections by amending its Code of Ethics to explicitly prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. Becoming an Ally: Take part in the transformative journey of becoming an ally by participating in the Ally Certification program offered by the Ventura County Coastal Association of REALTORS® (VCCAR). By the end of June, their staff will be 100% Ally Certified, and they challenge others to follow suit. This enlightening and interactive course equips participants with the knowledge and skills to effectively engage with LGBTQ+ home buyers and sellers. Straight Allies, in particular, are encouraged to enroll, as it sheds light on the discrimination faced by LGBTQ+ clients and helps build cultural competency.
