Have Your Say: Help Shape Ventura’s Future with the New Land Use Map!

We’re excited to share a key update on Ventura’s General Plan, our city’s roadmap for guiding growth and development over the next 25 years. The updated Land Use Designation Map is live; we want your feedback by October 21, 2024! Your input will help shape the future of housing, transportation, and environmental sustainability in Ventura.

Over the past three years, we’ve partnered with the City Council, General Plan Advisory Committee (GPAC), Planning Commission, and hundreds of community members to take a deep dive into land use designations across the city. Earlier this year, we released a draft Land Use Map and received nearly 200 community responses! Based on your feedback, we’ve made significant changes to better reflect our shared vision for Ventura.

What is a land use designation? It determines what can be built on every parcel of land in Ventura—whether it’s housing, shops, businesses, or parks—as well as the height and size of buildings. We’ve made critical updates to residential, commercial, and industrial areas and adjusted specific parcels to better align with our community’s needs.

To make it easier to review these changes, we’ve created an interactive online map, downloadable documents, and a StoryMap highlighting the critical updates. Need help understanding it all? No problem! We’re hosting several opportunities to connect with staff in person and virtually to guide you through the updates and answer any questions.

How to Share Your Feedback:

Our interactive map allows you to explore the updated land use designations and provide your input. It divides the city into eight areas: Westside, North Avenue, Downtown, Midtown, Pierpont/Harbor, Ventura College, Arundell/Johnson, and Eastside. Click on a parcel or area and add your comments!

Please submit your feedback by Monday, October 21, 2024. Your voice matters, and we can’t wait to hear your thoughts on how Ventura should grow!
